What Matters When Mastering Electronic Music
Balance across the frequency range
Electronic productions can contain everything from deep sub-bass and powerful drums to dense synthesizers, effects and very high-frequency detail. Mastering can help maintain clarity and balance across that range without taking away the characteristics that give the production its identity.
Dynamics and transient control
Different electronic styles can have very different dynamic requirements. Some rely on sharp transients and pronounced changes in energy, while others use sustained sounds, dense textures or deliberately compressed production. The aim is to achieve an appropriate balance of impact, movement and overall level for the individual track.
Depth, space and stereo image
Synthesizers, reverbs, delays and other effects can create complex stereo environments. Mastering needs to consider width, depth and the relationship between central and wider elements while preserving the sense of space created in the mix and maintaining reliable translation across different playback systems.
No single electronic sound
Electronic music is particularly diverse, so there is no universal mastering approach for the genre. A minimal house track may require very different decisions from an ambient production, a dense trance track or an experimental electronic piece. We master according to the needs of the individual mix rather than trying to impose a particular sound on it.
